ElevenLabs vs Murf AI: Which AI Voice Tool Should You Use in 2026?

If you need a voiceover and you don't want to record it yourself, two names come up again and again: ElevenLabs and Murf AI. Both turn a script into speech that sounds like a real person. Both have a free plan, a browser editor and an API. But they're built with different people in mind, and their pricing works in very different ways.

I use ElevenLabs for voiceovers, and I expect to use it more often. That's the only personal experience in this post. Everything else about ElevenLabs and everything about Murf comes from their official pricing and product pages, which I checked on November 1, 2026. I don't speak for either company, and prices change, so check both sites before you buy.

The quick answer

  • Pick ElevenLabs if you want the widest choice of voices and languages, voice cloning on cheap plans, expressive control with audio tags, and extra audio tools like sound effects, music and dubbing in one account.
  • Pick Murf AI if you make training videos, presentations or e-learning, want a simple hours based allowance, like PowerPoint or Google Slides plugins, or need a very cheap text to speech API.
  • Try both free first. Each has a free plan, so you can paste the same script into both and listen.

Pricing compared

ElevenLabs pricing

ElevenLabs sells monthly credits. On its plan pages, roughly 1,000 credits produce one minute of speech, and the same pool is shared with everything else in your account, such as sound effects, music and dubbing. Here's what the pricing page listed:

PlanMonthly priceCredits a monthAbout this many TTS minutes
Free$010,00010
Starter$630,00030
Creator$22121,000121
Pro$99600,000600
Scale$2991,800,000 (3 seats)1,800
Business$9906,000,000 (10 seats)6,000

Enterprise is custom. Yearly billing costs 10 times the monthly price, so you pay for 10 months and get 12. The pricing page also showed introductory first month prices on some plans when I checked. Those change, so check the current price on their site.

A few details worth knowing from the ElevenLabs FAQ:

  • Unused credits roll over for up to two months on an active paid plan, as long as you don't downgrade or cancel. The Free plan has no rollover.
  • Downgrading or cancelling means unused paid credits expire at the end of the billing cycle.
  • Free regenerations. On the website, regenerating the same text with the same voice and model is free up to two times within two hours.
  • The Free plan is for personal, non-commercial use and needs attribution to ElevenLabs. Commercial rights start on Starter.

Murf AI pricing

Murf splits its pricing page into three tabs: Studio (the editor most people use), API and Dub. On the Studio tab:

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingVoice generation
Free$0$010 minutes, no downloads, no commercial rights
Creator$29/month$19/month ($228 billed yearly)2 hours a month, or 24 hours a year on yearly
Business$99/month$66/month ($792 billed yearly)8 hours a month, or 96 hours a year on yearly
EnterpriseCustomCustomUnlimited

Murf labels its yearly toggle "Save 33%". Watch which toggle you're looking at, because the lower numbers you see first are the yearly rates. The Free plan includes 10 projects and lets you try Business features, but you can't download your audio.

What the numbers mean in practice

At the entry level, ElevenLabs is cheaper. Starter costs $6 a month for about 30 minutes and includes commercial rights. Murf has no paid plan below Creator.

Around the two hour mark, they're close. ElevenLabs Creator is $22 a month for about 121 minutes. Murf Creator is $29 a month on monthly billing for 2 hours, or $19 a month if you pay yearly.

The bigger difference is how the allowance works. Murf gives you hours of voice generation. ElevenLabs credits are shared by every tool, so sound effects or dubbing leave fewer minutes for voiceovers.

Voice quality and control

Voice quality is personal, so listen for yourself. Here's what each company says its tools do.

ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs builds its own voice models. Its text to speech page lists several:

  • Eleven v4, described as its most emotive model, with 90+ languages, audio tags and multi-speaker dialogue.
  • Eleven v3, with 70+ languages and audio tags for emotional control.
  • Multilingual v2, with 29 languages, aimed at long voiceovers and audiobooks.
  • Flash / Turbo v2.5, a faster, cheaper model with 32 languages.

Audio tags are the feature to know about. You write directions like [whispers] or [laughs] straight into your script, and the voice acts them out. You can also set exact pronunciation with IPA or a pronunciation dictionary for brand names, and on the website you can download MP3, WAV, M4A or FLAC files.

Murf AI

Murf Studio is a project based editor. Creator and Business include 200+ voices, styles and tonalities, a Pronunciation Library (personal) and what Murf calls multi-native voices. The Business plan adds:

  • Emphasis, to stress particular words.
  • Variability, which generates several expressive takes of the same line.
  • Say It My Way, where you guide the delivery with your own reading.

On Murf these delivery tools sit on the $99 plan, while ElevenLabs puts audio tags in the models themselves.

Voice cloning

This is one of the clearest differences.

ElevenLabs offers Instant Voice Cloning from the $6 Starter plan, using a short recording (it suggests one to two minutes of audio). Professional Voice Cloning, trained on 30+ minutes of clean recordings, starts on Creator. ElevenLabs says you can only clone a voice you have permission to use, and Professional cloning is limited to your own voice after verification.

On Murf's Studio pricing, custom voice clones appear as an add-on on the Enterprise plan, and Professional Voice Cloning is listed under the API Enterprise plan. If cloning your own voice cheaply matters to you, ElevenLabs is the easier route.

Languages and dubbing

ElevenLabs supports far more languages: 90+ on Eleven v4, against 30+ languages and accents in Murf Studio (Murf's API page says 35+ languages with 150+ voices).

Both offer dubbing:

  • ElevenLabs includes Dubbing Studio from the Starter plan. Dubbing uses credits from the same pool, from 2,000 credits a minute for automatic dubbing with a watermark up to 10,000 credits a minute for Dubbing Studio without one.
  • Murf Dub is priced separately. The free tier gives 100 credits, pay as you go starts at $0.25 a credit, and dubbing costs 2 credits per minute per language.

Workflow and integrations

Here Murf has real strengths for business content.

  • Murf Creator includes Canva integration, unlimited downloads, royalty free stock media and embed codes. Business adds a PowerPoint plugin, Google Slides, Audio to Text transcription (4 hours a month on monthly billing) and Murf voices for Windows apps. If your job is narrating slide decks or training modules, that's a tidy setup.
  • ElevenLabs is broader. One account covers text to speech, speech to text, sound effects, music, voice changer, voice isolator, dubbing and Studio projects (3 projects on Free, 20 on Starter). There's also a mobile app for iOS and Android.

On teams, neither is generous at the low end. Murf's Creator and Business plans have one editor seat each, and sharing and collaboration are Enterprise features. ElevenLabs adds workspace seats on Scale (3) and Business (10).

The API: Murf wins on price

If you're a developer adding voice to an app, the per character prices are very different. On November 1, 2026:

  • Murf API: $0.01 per 1,000 characters on Falcon 2.1 (aimed at real time voice agents) and $0.03 per 1,000 characters on its studio quality model. New accounts get $10 free for API calls, and Murf says purchased credit never expires.
  • ElevenLabs API: $0.04 per 1,000 characters on Flash / Turbo, v4 Turbo and v3 Conversational, and $0.08 per 1,000 characters on Eleven v4, v3 and Multilingual v2.

On listed prices, Murf's cheapest model costs a quarter of ElevenLabs' cheapest. ElevenLabs offers more models and languages, but if price per character matters most, test Murf.

Where each tool wins

ElevenLabs wins on:

  • A cheaper first paid plan ($6 a month with commercial rights).
  • Voice cloning on low cost plans.
  • Number of voices and languages.
  • Expressive control with audio tags.
  • Many audio tools in one account.

Murf AI wins on:

  • API price per character.
  • Presentation and e-learning workflow (PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva).
  • A simple hours based allowance that isn't shared with other tools.
  • A yearly price on Creator ($19 a month) that's easy to budget.

Why I use ElevenLabs

As I said at the top, I use ElevenLabs for voiceovers. For video makers, the official pages show why it fits: a low cost way in, commercial rights on every paid plan, a large voice library and delivery controls. For slide based training content or a cheap API, Murf may be the better pick.
