ElevenLabs and WellSaid Labs both turn a script into a natural sounding voiceover, but they charge in very different ways and aim at different buyers.
ElevenLabs is a broad AI audio platform. Text to speech is the core, but it also does voice cloning, dubbing, speech to text, sound effects, music and voice agents, all paid for from one pool of monthly credits.
WellSaid Labs is more focused. It's a voiceover studio built mainly for marketing, training and corporate teams, with curated voices, pronunciation tools and plans that charge by the minute of finished audio you download.
I use ElevenLabs for voiceovers, and I expect to use it more often. I haven't tested WellSaid Labs, so everything about it below comes from its official pricing page, checked on November 2, 2026.
The quick answer
- Pick ElevenLabs if you want lots of voices and languages, voice cloning, dubbing or an API, and you like a cheap entry point (paid plans start at $6 a month).
- Pick WellSaid Labs if you make English voiceovers for training or marketing, you redo lines a lot, and you'd rather pay for finished minutes with unlimited regenerations.
- Languages: ElevenLabs lists 74 languages across its plans. WellSaid's self-serve plans list English voices only, with other languages and translation on Enterprise.
- Billing model: ElevenLabs uses credits, and regenerations generally use credits too (with a limited number of free regenerations in some cases). WellSaid counts download minutes, and generation is unlimited on paid plans.
- Teams: ElevenLabs Scale ($299/month) includes 3 seats. WellSaid Business is $160 per user per month, billed annually, for up to 5 seats.

ElevenLabs says its prices exclude all taxes. Annual billing works out to two months free: the page lists equivalent monthly prices of $5 for Starter, $18.33 for Creator, $82.50 for Pro, $249.17 for Scale and $825 for Business. The pricing page was also showing first-month discounts on some plans when I checked, so the price you see may differ for your first month.
How credits work, in plain terms:
- One pool for everything. Text to speech, dubbing, music, sound effects and speech to text all draw from the same monthly credits.
- Text to speech costs about 1 credit per character on most models, with some faster models costing less through the API.
- Other products cost more, for example speech to text at about 330 credits a minute and Dubbing Studio at 5,000 to 10,000 credits a minute.
- Rollover: unused credits roll over for up to two months, so your balance can reach up to 3 times your monthly quota, as long as you keep an active paid plan and don't downgrade or cancel.
- Extra minutes: the comparison table lists extra minute rates from about $0.36 down to about $0.17, with cheaper rates on bigger plans.

Prices are before tax. A few details from WellSaid's FAQ:
- Download minutes are minutes of finished audio you export. Regenerating and tweaking clips doesn't count against them on paid plans.
- Annual plans get the full year of minutes up front.
- Unused minutes don't roll over. They reset each billing cycle.
- Extra minutes can be bought inside the Studio app, but the pricing page doesn't list the price, so I can't confirm it.
- Caruso, which WellSaid calls its most advanced voice model, is available on all subscription tiers at no extra cost.
- File formats: Starter and Pro export MP3. Business and Enterprise add WAV, OGG and TXT.
Features compared
Voice quality and control
Both companies focus on natural, expressive voices, and voice quality is partly a matter of taste, so listen to samples on both sites with your own script.
ElevenLabs has a huge voice library, Voice Design for creating new voices from a description, and its newest model, Eleven v4, which it describes as its most emotive yet.
WellSaid uses curated voice actors and gives you studio controls for tone, pitch and emotion. It also has AI pronunciation suggestions, custom pronunciations and an Oxford Dictionary integration for US and UK pronunciation, which is handy for training content full of product names and jargon.
Languages
This is a clear split. ElevenLabs lists 74 languages, available from the Free plan up.
WellSaid's Starter, Pro and Business plans list English voices, including accents like British, South African and Australian. Additional languages such as Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Korean, plus translation, are Enterprise features. If you need non-English voiceovers without talking to sales, ElevenLabs is the simpler route.
Voice cloning
ElevenLabs offers Instant Voice Cloning from the $6 Starter plan and Professional Voice Cloning from the $22 Creator plan. That's useful if you want a voiceover in your own voice.
WellSaid's self-serve pricing page doesn't list voice cloning, so I wouldn't count on it from those plans.
Retakes and the real cost of a finished minute
This is where the billing models really matter.
With ElevenLabs, you spend credits each time you generate. If you regenerate a paragraph five times to get the delivery right, that generally costs more credits, though ElevenLabs says a limited number of free regenerations may be available when the text and settings don't change. On the other hand, credits are cheap at the low end and they roll over for up to two months.
With WellSaid, paid plans give you unlimited generation, and you only use up minutes when you download finished audio. If your workflow involves lots of small edits to long training scripts, that can be easier to predict.
Beyond voiceovers
ElevenLabs is much broader. The same plan covers speech to text, dubbing into other languages, sound effects, music, voice changer, voice isolator and conversational voice agents, plus an API.
WellSaid sticks closer to voiceovers: Studio, caption files (SRT and VTT) on paid plans, shared pronunciation libraries and team commenting on Business, Adobe Express and Premiere Pro integrations, and an API.
Privacy and teams
WellSaid says customer data and content are never used to train its AI models, and that it's SOC 2 Type 2 certified and GDPR compliant. Its Business plan adds team workspaces, shared voice libraries, roles and invoicing.
ElevenLabs offers team seats on Scale and Business, and Enterprise adds custom DPA and SLA terms, HIPAA BAAs and custom SSO. If data handling is critical for your company, read both companies' terms in full before deciding.
Where ElevenLabs wins
- Lower entry price. $6 a month for commercial use and voice cloning.
- 74 languages without needing an Enterprise contract.
- Voice cloning from Starter, professional cloning from Creator.
- Far more tools in one subscription, from dubbing to sound effects to voice agents.
- Credit rollover for up to two months on active paid plans.
Where WellSaid Labs wins
- Unlimited generation on paid plans, so retakes don't eat your allowance.
- Simple minute-based billing that's easy to explain to a finance team.
- Pronunciation tools like custom pronunciations, smart suggestions and a dictionary integration.
- Corporate friendly features like team workspaces, invoicing, SOC 2 reports and a promise not to train on customer data.
- Adobe Premiere Pro integration on Business, if your video team lives in Premiere.
Why I use ElevenLabs
I use ElevenLabs for voiceovers, and I expect to use it more often.
For the kind of work most solo creators and small businesses do, its mix of low starting price, wide language support and voice cloning is hard to argue with, and the fact that one subscription also covers dubbing, sound effects and speech to text means fewer tools to pay for. WellSaid looks like a strong option for English-only corporate and training teams, but I haven't tested it, so weigh that side using its own samples and free trial.
Try ElevenLabs yourself
The free plan gives you 10,000 credits a month, which is enough to try a few voices on your own script before paying anything.
